Task Group Meetings:
Arts & Culture:
Looks at delivering public art works within the St Pauls area as layed down
in the Neighbourhood Plan, A chance for artists to meet other artists and find
out whats going on.
10 – 12pm @ the Pierian Centre, Portland Square – 12th November
The latest news is that we are putting an artist brief together for St Pauls Parks.
Future projects include Brunswick Cemetery and St Agnes Park. We are also
involved in arts events and festivals around St Pauls.
External Environment:
Deals with environmental issues such as rubbish, roads and transport,
parks & green spaces and planning permission.
11:00 - 13:00 @ Learning & Family Centre / Oct 14th, Nov 11th, Dec 9th
Stokes Croft is currently high on the group's agenda with consultations taking place on the redesign
of the City Rd and Jamaica Street corners; £100,000 available for improvements to the streetscape
and £900,000 available under the Townscape Heritage Initiative for the improvement of specific
historically important buildings."
The Parks Sub Group
are currently involved in the refurbishment of St Agnes Park and Brunswick Cemetery.

Planning Sub Group: We discuss pre- planning applications from developers
And try to encourage them to stick to the details as layed down in the Neighbourhood Plan.

Housing Task Group:
The housing task group is looking at the broader issues of housing
in the area, from what mix of housing should be developed, to what
policies we should push for - a good example being the local sales
protocol, where any social landlord selling property in the area gave
people with a local connection the first option to buy.

Employment & Economy Task Group:
We don't have any direct control over the economic circumstances of local people,
but we try to influence how other people work in the area and make sure the money
coming into the area benefits local people.
14:00 - 16:00 @ St Agnes Lodge / Nov 4th, Dec 2nd
Working on the proposed new ‘Enterprise Hub’ in the Dove Lane development plus
we are monitoring the take up of jobs by local people in Cabot Circus.
Community Safety Task Group:
Do you care about safety issues in your neighbourhood?
Are you troubled by anti-social behaviour?
16:30 – 18:30 @ St Pauls Learning & Family Centre / Nov 3rd, Dec 1st
Key topics include: street drinking on Stokes Croft and Brunswick Square.
Schools, Children & Families Task Group:
An action group where agencies can demonstrate how they are changing
their services in response to local people.
13:00 - 15:00pm @ Learning Centre / Oct 16th, Nov 13th, Dec 11th
Recently the group have been looking at the Dove Lane school collocation
and the lack of primary school places in the area.
Community Cohesion Task Group:
Is about challenging the conditions that lead to social segregation,
addressing inequality and making services meet the needs of diverse communities.
16:30 – 18:30 @ Learning & Family Centre / Oct 13th, Dec 8th
The group are working with young peoples organisations on activities that
encourage young people to get on together. We want to encourage parents
to support local projects and activities. Any parents that have any concerns
should come along.

Do you want to have more influence in your children’s school? Is rubbish and litter
a problem in your area? Do you want to get something in your community
changed? If you have concerns about these, or similar issues and don’t know how
to get your voice heard, then this day will show you how! Find out lots of ways of
having your say.
Who is the Council Anyway?
Tuesday 14 October (2.30pm - 6pm)
Council House, College Green, Bristol, BS1 5TR
Who runs Bristol? Meet some of the people who make decisions that affect you –
like how much council tax you pay. This afternoon will give you the chance to:
· Ask questions to some of those in charge
· Find out how, when and where decisions are made
· Understand where you can influence these decisions
· See a full council meeting in action (optional 6-7pm)

Tuesday 4 & 11 November (6.00pm - 9.00pm) EVENING COURSE!
Beacon Centre, Russell Town Avenue, Bristol, BS5 9JH
Do you have an idea or want to change something in your community? Do you
want to know how to get people together to put ideas into action? This two-part
course will help you:
· Motivate people to get involved
· Identify all the practical issues involved in setting up and running a group
· Understand how to manage money
· Know how to promote and publicise your ideas

Thursday 13 November (6.00pm - 9.30pm) EVENING SESSION!
A visit to Police Headquarters, Portishead. This visit will give you a better
understanding about how calls are prioritised; the staffing of both the call centre
and emergency call handling; what kind of response time you can expect; how
specific events and operations are handled; and how communications are linked
to other organisations like the Fire Brigade, the Council, CCTV and
Neighbourhood Watch. We have arranged a minibus to take you to
Portishead.

Wednesday 26 November (9.30am - 3.30pm)

This course will be useful for anyone who takes part in any sort of meetings,
whether you’re just starting, you’ve been attending for a while or you run them,
this will help you and others get the best you can out of the meeting.
It will cover how to keep focused; speaking out, getting your questions answered,
making sure everyone has a say and the skills a Chair needs and how to get them.
